It cannot be confused that Supergirl is on a rebellious series when we meet it for the first time. With Cruel director Craig Gillespie Driving the autonomous supergirl film, it makes perfect sense that this opinion on Kara reaches in the grit and style rather than clean heroic.
His cameo in Superman is less but memorable. In it, he presents himself drunk at the fortress of solitude, not to fight, but to collect his dog, Krypto, which Superman has looked for her. There is an irreverent energy there, which is on par for Gunn.
James Gunn recently opened on how Supergirl differs from his most confident cousin: “[Flashbacks to Krypton are] Always a possibility. But I think those things are really an integral part of the two characters and the differences between them, and that Clark really has a really happy sort of childhood.
“I mean, he had parents who loved him in a hand education, and this makes him the least dysfunctional of superheroes in so many ways.
“Supergirl, in particular the DCu Supergirl, is a bit of a disaster. I want to say, he had real problems, and he is based on the comic in which he saw a person after person after the person died in front of her while his piece of the planet has disintegrated.”
It is clear that this supergirl is not here to smile politely and follow orders. Porta trauma, attitude and a hangover, which makes it a much more unpredictable presence in the DCU.
