Beijing has just given us a taste of the robot apocalypse, but instead of the war, it is football and is deliciously clumsy. Suddenly, I’m not so worried about a robot revolt.
On June 28, the city hosted its first robotic football tournament and offered everything you did not know you needed: embarrassing sprints, theatrical swaps and robots who felt their digital hearts.
The semifinals saw the Vulcan team of the University of Tsinghua go to the tip of the house with the light of the Blaze team of Beijing Info and Sci-Tech U, with six humanoid robots that moved like children in Halloween costumes trying to play FIFA.
The legs agitated, the algorithms of equilibrium goguti and somewhere in their code, you could really feel trying. It’s fun and strange to watch.
