If your last group is hung in a couples’ therapy session, Splitsville It could be a movie that seems a little too real. Neon dropped the first trailer Michael Angelo CovinoThe new comedy SplitsvilleAnd it is using a unpleasantly fun look at marriage, to the honesty and the disorder that happens when trying to correct a relationship by making it explode.
Spiltsville Centers on Carey (Kyle Marvin) and Ashley (Adria Arjona), a couple of just a year of marriage and already in front of the great D – Divorce. When Ashley says he wants to go out, Carey retires to the safe refuge of his married friends Julie (Dakota Johnson) and Paul, played by Covino. Their solution? An open relationship. Naturally.
What follows is a chaotic tangle of feelings, boundaries and crossed lines. Carey and Julie sleep together. They tell their partners. And the delicate illusion of control is shattered for both couples. If the trailer is an indication, Splitsville runs through a thin line between exhilaratingly embarrassing and painfully honest.
The film made his debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where according to what was reported he earned a standing ovation of six minutes and many laughs. Covino, reflecting on the experience, said:
“We must continue to make comedies for Cannes. Laughter should be seen in a theater, not on a television screen.”
Splitsville It opens in cinemas on August 22nd.
