After Top Gun: Maverick He got up at unexpected heights in 2022, both at the box office and in fans’ hearts, it seemed that the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell had finally found his landing strip.
The sequel hit all the right notes with its high prize aerial action, a great story and characters. So what remains Top Gun 3 Do? A little, apparently, and that’s not what you might expect.
Director Joseph Kosinski He has returned to the piloting cabin and this time he is tracing a new type of flight path. While promoting his next film F1Kosinski made fun of the current thought behind the third episode of Top Gun in an interview with GQ and the mission in sight may not involve missiles or Mig, but something much more personal.
“We are thinking much bigger than … it is a truly existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it is much bigger than himself. It is an existential question with which Maverick has to do, that he would make you feel small Maverick, I think, as a film, compared to what we are talking about.”
Kosinski makes fun of the fact that Maverick will feel “small” next to what is coming says a lot about the emotional or thematic sphere to which they aim.
And while Mcquarrie, who co-scored Maverick, said he already knows what Top Gun 3 It will be, he is playing it equally shy. The only thing we know for sure is that this will be “a last lap” for Maverick, and Kosinski believes that there is still “more story to tell” for the iconic pilot.
The persistent question is if this story will stick to Top gun Training program or completely guide in a brand new territory.
Given as Maverick already balanced Legacy characters with fresh recruits, it is difficult to imagine the third film that makes the setting in the classroom again. More likely, Maverick will be called by the pension for a last mission or will have to face a challenge that does not involve a pilot cabin at all.
Could the enemy be the same time? Mortality? Inheritance? Kosinski’s “existential” comments make people seem less to fight others and more to face what is next for a man who has spent his whole life overcoming the ground.
Kosinski also joked on the cruise with which he meets F1 star Brad Pitt In a sort of crossover, saying:
“At this moment, it would be a dollo, which was [Cruise’s] Days of Thunder character, we find that he and Sonny Hayes [Pitt’s character in F1] have a past. They were rival at some point, perhaps they crossed the paths … I heard of this epic battle Go-Kart during the interview with a vampire that Brad and Tom had and who did not pay to see those two go to the track on the track? “
Unfortunately, according to reports, Pitt only wants to work with the “ground” cruise, which makes his involvement in Top Gun 3 Unlikely, Maverick exchanges the flight suit for a racing helmet.
Top Gun 3 It doesn’t have a release date yet, and with Kosinski F1 Expected to arrive in cinemas on June 27, 2025, we could wait a little more to see how Maverick’s next chapter takes place.
But if the creative team is really for something bigger, more bold and more introspective, this could be more than a simple bond sequel, it could actually be the rare final that explores what happens when the thrill has disappeared.
