Disney live-action Gargoyles The project is slowly taking shape and writer Gary Dauberman He is clearly clear that he wants that he looks just like the loved ones of the animated series of the 90s still love.
In development under the watch of James Wan and Dauberman who collaborated before Annabelle, The nunand the It adaptation. the new Gargoyles The series aims to keep the spirit of the original alive.
Speaking with Variety, Dauberman shared his thoughts on where he is trying to take history:
“Oh, yes, another beloved piece of IP. This new iteration of Gargoyles … The show was already rather dark as it was serialized, it was a mature thing, it is operational and the story was so epic.
“I hope it is very similar to the atmosphere you got when you were watching it in the late 90s. I loved that half hour of television, falling into their world. I hope to reach it. It’s a lot of fun, however – it’s a thrill.”
The original animated series, created by Greg WeismanHe distinguished himself because he didn’t talk to his audience. It was rich, dark, serialized and much more sophisticated than it expected from a cartoon after school.
He told the story of a clan of ancient protected by Gargoyle cursed to sleep in stone for a thousand years, just to wake up in the heart of the modern city of New York after a rich businessman, David Xanatos, reconstructs their castle on top of a skyscraper.
Led by Goliath, the clan had to understand life in a world completely foreign to them, fighting both modern threats and the demons of their past. The cast of characters – Goliath, Demona, Hudson, Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway and their faithful Hound Bronx – gave his heart to the show.
Of course, listening to Dauberman wants to capture the same atmosphere is encouraging … but there is a turning point that is raising some eyebrows. A short synopsis for the restart previously and mentioned a rather drastic change:
“Based on the classic Disney animated series of worship, Goliath is the last heroic race of Gargoyle Warriors who once lived between humanity. Free from a long curse of a Mazza Elisa of Goliath, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past while looking at the modern New York City along the detective of the police Elisa Maza.”
If this is accurate, Goliath would be the only remaining Gargoyle, who seems completely wrong for a show that concerned the family, loyalty and teamwork. Losing characters like Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, Hudson and Bronx would have stripped Gargoyles of a huge part of what made it special.
I hope that that summary of the plot is not definitive because starting without the complete crew would certainly be a false step.
If Disney really wants to do this good, it would be intelligent to bring some original creators to help guide the project. Fans are not just looking for beautiful CGI creatures; They want the same heart, dramatic and construction of the world they did Gargoyles A legend in the first place.
We hope that Dauberman and Wan take him out.
