THE Power Rangers RPG He gave players the opportunity to be Power Rangers, teenagers and even space travelers. Then, last year the team of renegade game studies decided that it was time for the ranger to travel over time with the A leap over time Book of origin.
This book of origin is focused on the things of the beloved seasons of Power Rangers franchise like Time force AND RPM. Renegade was so kind that a copy, but all the thoughts below are mine. If you like what you read, you can take your copy from your favorite role -playing stores including Drivethrurpg (affiliation link).
A leap over time It is a phenomenal book that does what it says. It gives you the tools to be performed Power Rangers RPG Adventures with time travel. For this review, I am planning more or less to walk through each of the chapters to highlight what you get and what my thoughts are on everything.
In short, I think there are many precious tools here and although I don’t think it is absolutely necessary for any group that does not make travel over time, I would recommend it if you have some money to expand your tools for the role -playing game of Power Rangers.
The first chapter is a standard introduction. It gives short snapshots of various related time trips Power Rangers myth. I don’t have many thoughts on this chapter, but I would recommend reading it because it does a good job to trigger the rest A leap over time.
The second chapter is where real meat begins. These are the character options with 8 new influences, 7 new origins, 2 new fundamental roles, 1 new advanced role, 7 new role -playing options, a multitude of new suggestions of skills related to time travel, 18 new advantages (including 2 advantages), 17 new grid powers and 3 new contacts.
Personally I am very intrigued by the influence of the paradox. It is here that your existence creates a paradox in the continuum of spacetime that I like from the point of view of the narrative. From the point of view of the game mechanics it is nice that you can draw on your other I to give you a push to a skill in a scene and I am a slight chaos agent and therefore the incomplete that forces a shot on the table of the continuous anomalies that feeds me that side of me.
The origins in A leap over time It really helps to escape the why or the way you are involved in time travel as an accidental that allows you to re-rolling during a skill test or a volunteer that allows you to re-roll a 1 in a skill test if you are doing what your superiors direct you, there are other origins such as low technology (think of Koda da da Dino Charge) or last of my kind that help only to eliminate the motivations of your character outside the way in which the journey through time.
The new fundamental roles are orange and purple each with a rather fresh flavor. Orange rangers can use their imagination as weapons. Their creativity is what gives them unique morphine shells. Also, their thoughts quickly! The function offers them the edge in the initiative tests and the potential to manufacture tools and equipment using the points of history.
In the meantime, the purple rangers are fed by their emotions. This allows them to obtain different bonuses based on their emotional state (the fault allows a re-roll of a 1, joy gives a move when approaching an ally, etc.) and recovers points of power when specific triggering factors occur (an ally that reaches a critical success trigger joy, a disgusting ally, etc.).
I really like the flavor of these roles, but they certainly feel as if the player and/or GM really must be at the top of things to make sure that things are allowing them to shine. I wonder even if Orange and Purple could be more suitable for a group member who cannot reach any game session for any reason.
The new role advanced in A leap over time It is nothing more than the quantum ranger. One of my favorite features is the quantum power that allows you to choose between a list of objects at certain levels and I love explosive morph.
This quantum power allows you to create an explosion when it transforms (indicates the scene of questions and answers from RPM) to hit all the objectives within 20 feet for 1 energy damage. The time trial is also very powerful as it allows not only a re-Roll but you can also choose which of the results is maintained! It’s really powerful!
I don’t want to talk too much about the other new character options for the good of Brevity, but I will treat us with some that I really like. A specialization of skill suggested for targeting is siege weapons and I love it. I don’t know how often it occurs in a Power Rangers RPG Campaign, but begins to feed some ideas. A leap over time It also gives the further Zord Perk that reminds me Forza wild AND Jungle Fury More than the other series.
The power of the Malician grille of the Gremlins makes your unarmed strikes inflict electromagnetic damage that is really nice if you are fighting many enemies based on machines such as The Machine Empire.
The next chapter are all types of different equipment. This includes a variety of ways for time travel both technologically and magically as a time ship or energy. He also has information on the specific weapons of the era and when you could meet them as a Khopesh (a personal favorite weapon in general) for the dynastic era or a whose wardian Eltarian for the war of the vile master.
In reality I like attention to the details in which things actually throw instead of just saying: “Talk to your GM of things”. Having said that, this section is really short. At least this is needed as a good starting point and then go and talk to your re-hustlehine GM or customization of statistics.
There is also a lot of other objects here that each travel group would draw like a chrono-caso, a multitude of vehicles such as The Time Jet, an arsenal of weapons including a vortex Blaster and the guardian staff, Zords such as the tiger and the cruiser Wolf and the characteristics of Zord such as the martial checks that allow you to use the pinna or your accommodation with your attack with your Zord. Once again, a very solid chapter.
The fourth chapter of A leap over time it concerns the whole journey through time and the way it works in Power Rangers RPG. Traveling in time is more difficult, besides your current hour when you want to go to travel forward is more difficult than the past, which makes everything sense.
Also, while traveling through time, all types of things can be shaky by creating errors and/or anomalies. Some of the errors just include the waste of time (for literal minutes) that you planned, therefore causes a certain confusion for the players until they resolve it or perhaps even get lost in time.
In the meantime, the anomalies go to things how to meet your historical paradoxes to the change of temporal events to make unstable and reveal the SpaceTime fabric. This chapter is the Linchpin for the entire book of sources and in my opinion it does an excellent job in establishing the rules and therefore entering the details on various eras including the awakening, prehistoric times, the wild West, the Corinth and many others.
Finally, we get threats from this book. There are a lot of new servants like Batling Lightspeed RescueCycloobot from Time forceElitarian rebels from the boom! comics, scorpion sign from RPMAnd a devil more! Some salient moments of the monsters include the Camera Attack Bot, Dash, Frix, etc. In addition, Nadira and Fresno Bob are some of my favorite lieutenants. Finally, the Cathive range includes anexes, clurous, Vypra, Ransik, Final Attack Bot and Wizard of Deception. It is not bad training.
Once again, I will say that I think A leap over time It is a good book of sources. It is a little niche because anyone who does not care about the journey through time will not find much value, but is good at what he is preparing to do.
All the new options have fun aspects that can really make the GM think a little out of the box (as we can make a siege weapons a specialization practicable in a campaign) and I like ideas behind the new Ranger roles. If you are a bit trepid in the time, I recommend you take a look at A knight over time (Review here) To get a taste of how it works before committing completely.
