Howard the Duck could be one of the most unexpected but completely welcome additions to the Marvel cinema universe, but if you hoped in an autonomous project with the Wishacracking duck, Seth Green has some news for you … probably not happening.
Green, who expressed Howard in the MCU since then Guardians of the galaxyHe recently spoke with the comic while promoting Chicken robot And he confirmed that Marvel has never played plans so that the character takes on a more important role. Instead, Howard works better as a fun and occasional presence in the wider universe.
Green explained: “Howard adapts well to Guardians universe. This was the perfect opportunity to check -in him. And then we made a handful of What if…? [episodes] Also … we have to do something interesting.
“Howard is a funny character, right? There are some characters who are stars without needing to be their own project. It is fun, as, where it can work for the mass public has not yet been seen. “
Howard the Duck has been part of the Marvel Comics since 1973 and, although he may not have the same cultural cache as Spider-Man or X-Men, he has a certain notoriety.
His first trip to the big screen in 1986, produced by George LucasIt is one of the most infamous comics films ever made. He bombed hard on the box office, collecting only $ 38 million against a strong $ 30-37 million budget.
His MCU journey started with a quick post-Credit cameo Guardians of the galaxywhere he was spotted in the collector museum. Since then, it has appeared Guardians vol. 2, What if…?And he even made a beat of eyelash and a short appearance Avengers: endgameEpic portals scenes.
There is something in Howard the duck that still seems to work as a solo project. A new interpretation of the character could rely on his satirical and Lampoon roots the kind of superhero in a way that feels fresh and fun.
But as Green pointed out, there is a big difference between toyolarly in a few Guardians scenes and transporting an entire film or TV series. Marvel thinks that Howard is a difficult character to sell, but I think he would make a great sketch.
Having said that, if Marvel decided to give Howard his moment in the spotlight, he would need the right creative team to make him work. Personally, I would like to see a Howard The Duck & Hellcow Movies: because if you are becoming strange, you could also go all in.
