Captain America: Brave New World Director to recover Liv Tyler, but he deserved more

Liv TylerThe return as Betty Ross in Captain America: Brave New World It seemed a long shot for years. His last appearance as Bruce Banner’s love interest and the general daughter “Thunderbolt” Ross returned in 2008 The incredible Hulk.

Since then, most of the support cast of that film has faded in Marvel Limbo, especially after Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton Like Bruce Banner of the MCU.

While William Hurt He resumed his role as Thunderbolt Ross Captain America: Civil War AND Tim Roth He went back She-Hulk: LawyerSome fans wondered if Tyler Wold returned.

Well, he did it. But they did not do justice to the character. Director Julius Onah He knew that recovering Tyler was not a fact. He had moved away from acting to focus on other aspects of his life. Onah explained to Collider how he approached Tyler:

“He had done a little behind from acting, focusing on other things in his life, and is such an incredible human being. But I just went to zoom and I had a very honest conversation with her, as I did with any other actor who would have been involved, like emotionally and themes what this film was trying to make and because I thought it would be worth their time and their talents. Fortunately, he replied. “

That conversation took place at the beginning of the development process. Onah added: “It was right during the development process. I think I have a zoom with her probably at the beginning of 2023 because it takes time to make an agreement and a preparation and all those other things.

“So, it had to be very early so that if for some reason it would not have worked, whether it is planning or anything else, we would have the opportunity to make another choice or decision.”

In the end Tyler agreed, but for what he finished to be a short and discreet role. For fans of The incredible HulkBetty’s return should have been a big problem. Instead, it appears only in a short scene at the end of the film, visiting his father now imprisoned (Harrison Ford, taking on the role of the deceased William Hurt) on the raft.

The moment brings a little emotional weight, but considering the legacy of the character and the effort to bring Tyler back, it was a lost opportunity.

I just think Tyler and his character Betty Ross deserved better. If this is the beginning of a larger arch for the character, fantastic. But if this was only a short nostalgic cameo, it is a shame to see a character that the character put aside.
