Marvel Studios have dropped a new one Thunderbolts* Trailer during the Super Bowl, giving us our first real look Lewis PullmanThe sentinel, and with it, a terrifying look at his dark alter ego, the void.
If you are not familiar with the character, it is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe … and also one of the most unstable.
The movie creates Thunderbolts team, led by Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), as they face a serious threat to New York City. That threat is a dark force that consumes everything on its path. And at the center of everything? Sentinel.
The trailer strongly suggests its connection with the void, a force of pure destruction. In Marvel Comics, Robert “Bob” Reynolds becomes Sentry after ingesting a Golden Sentry experimental serum, an attempt to recreate the super soldier serum of Captain America who went horribly crooked.
The result? Bob gets divine force, flight and handling energy. But the serum also creates the void, an entity that manifests itself every time Bob loses control.
The void is the embodiment of the worst fears, fault and negative emotions of Bob. It is a monstrous and dark force capable of mass destruction and almost impossible to stop.
In comics, the void manifests itself as a terrifying entity of pure destruction, the void is the embodiment of the deepest fears, of the fault and negative emotions of Reynolds, acting as a dark counterpart of his heroic person.
Whenever the sentinel uses its incredible powers, the void threatens to emerge, bringing chaos, death and devastation on a large scale.
This is exactly what Thunderbolts* Trailer teases. New York City is swallowed by darkness and civilians are jumped into shadows. This is bad news for Thunderbolts, because if the comics are indicative, give us the way out of this problem will not work.
The void is a threat on a cosmic level. He swept entire cities, forced heroes such as Doctor Strange and Reed Richards to take extreme measures to contain it and even manipulate others to spread fear and destruction as he can corrupt those that surround him.
Traditional combat rarely works against emptiness. Instead, the best way to contain it was psychological, suppressing the memories of Bob or convincing him to regain control. This could be the key to how Thunderbolts face it in the film.
The origins of VOID bind directly to the long -standing Super Soldier plot of the MCU. Bucky Barnes, American agent and Red Guardian, all Thunderbolts members, are products from several super soldiers experiments. Now, they are facing the final test: a failed serum experiment has gone horribly crooked.
Sentry can start as an ally, but if the Thunderbolts* The trailer is any indication, it is also the largest threat they will have to face.
It will be interesting and fun to see how Thunderbolts will manage a threat that cannot simply fight. And above all: can Bob Reynolds ever really control the void?
We will find out when Thunderbolts* It affects cinemas on May 2nd.
