For some reason, the focus characteristics is developing a reamke of Takashi Miikedisturbing cult of the 1997 cult of cult Hearing. That film is seriously blocked in my head since the first time I saw him as a young adult. That film has messed me.
The new film will be a new interpretation Ryū Murakami’s 1997 novel on which the original film is based. This new interpretation of the film is written and directed by Christian Tafdrup who is co-inscribing with his brother and frequent collaborator, Mads Tafdrup.
The Tafdrup brothers recently directed Blumhouse’s remake of their film Don’t speak badlywho was a decent thriller.
The Japanese psychological horror film follows Shigeharu Aoyama, a widower who, encouraged by a friend, has a false audition to find a new wife. He becomes infatuated with Asami, a young woman apparently shy and delicate with a mysterious past.
While their relationship deepens, Aoyama discovers disturbing truths about her, leading to a shocking and gruesome turning point.
The film masterfully passes from a melancholy drama to a nightmare descent into madness and psychological and physical torment, with one of the most disturbing climax of horror cinema.
Honestly, I don’t see the point in rediscovering the film because the first was made so damn well, and I don’t think another film can improve the way the story was imagined by Takashi Miike. But, Hey … this is what Hollywood does.
We will just have to wait and see with what the Tafdrup brothers do with Hearing. What do you think Hearing Get a remake?
