IT: WELCOME TO DERRY will continue the deadly legacy of Pennywise and will not spare children

For those of you who are fans of Stephen KingIt’s a terrifying story It you can expect more of the same nightmarish horror EN: Welcome to Derrythe upcoming Max prequel series.

Casting director The rich Deliawho worked on both Andy Muschietti’S It movie, confirmed that children will once again be victims of the Pennywise nightmare.

While speaking with The directDelia made it clear: this series doesn’t hold back. He said: “I think the original cast of Losers are young, wonderful actors who have done amazing things.”

But when it came to finding a new ensemble for Welcome to DerryDelia admitted it was daunting. He explained: “It felt a little overwhelming… but the material was so strong, the characters are so rich and so deep.

“And Andy and Barbara [Muschietti] you care so much about this world that it just – when you work with people like that who care and give 100%, it makes you want to give 100%.”

The stakes are high for these new characters, not only in their performances but also in their survival. Delia continued by teasing the dark side of the series:

“I was just trying to dig up every stone I could, to find these guys and to find the most amazing, memorable guys that audiences will love, you know, fall in love with, and then some of them, of course, watch them die.” .”

Pennywise is returning and the body count will rise. For those who worry that the series might dilute the horror, Bill Skarsgård’s chilling portrayal of Pennywise should put those concerns to rest.

Delia recalled Skarsgård’s audition for the 2017 film, saying: “I was completely terrified. He wasn’t wearing a clown costume. It was Bill himself who, by the way, is the kindest and loveliest man in the world.

“But it was actually Bill who walked in, and he started launching into Pennywise, and I had the chills and the hairs on my arm, and I looked at my partner when he left, and I was like, freaking out. I was actually scared in the room. So it’s a good sign for someone who wants to play Pennywise.”

Delia’s insights suggest a world that remains more horrific and tragic than ever, with Pennywise continuing his reign of terror.

Skarsgård himself reassured fans that Pennywise and the Horrors of Derry will remain “pretty hardcore” as they were in the films.

There are ambitious plans for the series and they are looking to deliver a chilling and interconnected story across three seasons.

The first season of Welcome to Derry is set in 1962, a few years before the events of EN: chapter one. From there, the story will go back in time with the planned second season exploring 1935 and the third season taking viewers to 1908.

Speaking about this unique structure, Muschietti explains, “There’s a reason the story is told backwards.”

The story draws inspiration from interludes in King’s original novel, which detail the research conducted by Mike Hanlon as he reconstructs Derry’s dark history.

Andy Muschietti explained: “The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon’s research… snippets of his research. For 27 years, he’s the man trying to figure out what he is, what he did, who did it, who saw it and all that stuff.”

Each season will focus on catastrophic events related to Pennywise’s cycles of terror, which occur every 27 years.

Muschietti jokes: “We talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire at the Black Spot… the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the 1930s… and the Kitchener Ironworks explosion.”

These historical tragedies form the backbone of the three planned seasons, each offering a deeper exploration of Derry’s dark past and the monstrous influence of Pennywise.

Muschietti confirms: “We will base the three seasons of this series on each of these catastrophic events.”

En: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO and stream on Max in 2025.
