Gerard Butler reflects on the grueling, injury-filled filming of Zack Snyder’s 300

Gerardo Butler recently talked about the challenging and crazy production of Zack Snyder’S 300based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller. It’s a visually stunning epic, but it was a punishing shoot for its actors.

While talking to People about his new film Den of Thieves 2: PantherButler described the toll filming took on the cast.

He shared, “I remember every day someone was taken to the hospital. You were fighting, you turn around, there’s a guy over there, a spear went in his eye. Another time, you turn around, there’s a guy down there that he fell and broke his ankle, I mean, it was crazy.”

Good heavens! This sounds absolutely crazy! But despite the dangerous conditions, Butler emerged from the production unscathed… at least physically.

His most dangerous experience on set came years later, during the making of Hunting for nonconformistsa surfing drama released in 2012.

He recalled being hit by a huge wave, leading to a life-threatening ordeal. “I thought I was done. They had to take me out, take me to the hospital, put me out, give me the defibrillator. I mean, it was intense,” Butler said.

By Zack Snyder 300 was a huge success, earning over $450 million worldwide, and cemented Snyder’s reputation as a visionary filmmaker.

The film tells the story of King Leonidas (Butler) and his 300 Spartan warriors as they faced overwhelming odds against the Persian army led by King Xerxes. Its distinctive visual style and dramatic storytelling remain iconic.

The franchise expanded in 2014 300: Rise of an Empire. Plans for a prequel to the TV series are in development, with Snyder potentially returning to direct and produce.

Speaking about this, he said: “It’s super fun, I love the world. And even just in the preliminary meetings that we talked about, like, “What if this happens or that happens,” it’s really fun to say, wow, that’s a rich standard.

“It’s similar to this [Twilight of the Gods] in a strange way. Although there are many bases.”

Snyder has also explored a titled sequel Blood and ashand has been described as an Ancient Greek war epic following the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second-in-command, Haphaestion.
