Several years ago, Lucia Liu he recalled calling his co-star Bill Murray on the set of Charlie’s Angels when he launched an invective apparently aimed at her.
In 2021, during an appearance on Los Angeles Times podcasts Pretty AsianLiu spoke about the clash with Murray on the set of the action film he starred in with her Drew Barrymore AND Cameron Diaz.
Liu recalled that after the script was rewritten without Murray’s knowledge, the actor went on a tirade at Liu, saying:
“I was like, ‘Wow, he looks like he’s looking straight at me.’ I couldn’t believe it [his comments] it could be towards me, because what do I have to do with anything particularly important at that moment?
“I say, ‘I’m so sorry.’ Are you talking to me?’ – and clearly he was, because then it started to become one-to-one communication.”
The star said she found Murray’s language “inexcusable and unacceptable”, adding: “I stood up for myself and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low you may be or wherever you come from, there is no need to condescend or humiliate other people.
Now, four years later, Liu was asked this in an interview The Guardian what motivated her to call the actor. He explained:
“I didn’t really think about it. I would have done it in any situation. I think when I feel like something isn’t right, I will protect myself. It’s an innate thing to do if you feel there’s an injustice, and I always feel that way.
It’s great that Liu stood up for herself. While Murray may have made a mistake and we don’t know his side of the story, sometimes we all need to be clear and remember that the way we talk to someone isn’t right.
