UNTIL DAWN teaser and story details explain how the film embraces the tone and mechanics of the game

Sony Pictures has revealed the first look at its upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game Until dawn. The teaser shows how the film connects to the source material and that the filmmakers are trying to replicate the basic concepts of the game instead of its plot.

It is explained that the film will have the same tone and feel as the game and will expand on the universe. The mechanics of the film are also interesting because, like in the game, after a character’s death, things start over again and you can try again.

It is explained that every time a character comes back to life, it is as if they enter a completely new horror genre, and to survive they must make it until dawn. This looks like it could be a really fun horror movie!

We also have a synopsis that offers details of our first story:

“A year after her sister Melanie’s mysterious disappearance, Clover and her friends head to the remote valley where she disappeared in search of answers.

“Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and gruesomely murdered one after another… only to wake up to find each other early the same evening.

“Trapped in the valley, they are forced to relive the nightmare again and again, only each time the murderous threat is different, each more terrifying than the last.

“Hope diminishes, the group soon realizes that they still have a limited body count left and that the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

The film’s cast includes Ella Rubin (The idea of you), Michele Cimino (I’ve never done it), Ji-young Yoo (expatriates), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Pietro Stormare, Maia Mitchell AND Belmont Camelli.

The film was written by Blair Butler (The invitation) with contributions from Gary Daubermann (Salem’s Lot), and the film is directed by David F. Sandbergknown for Lights off AND Annabelle: Creation.

Sandberg is excited to return to his horror roots and previously said: “I’ve been longing to do horror again. This film explores the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible.

“Capturing the essence of the game but with new characters, it makes for a fantastic introduction to the world for the newcomer, as well as offering something new that fans of the game will enjoy.”

Described as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre,” the film promises to deliver a chilling experience for newcomers and fans of the game alike.
