Pixar Studios is bringing the beloved History of the toy the franchise returns to the big screen next summer with its fifth installment and new details about the franchise’s star Tim Allen are giving fans a little taste of what’s in store.
The film, directed by Andrea Stantonwill reportedly focus on toys grappling with their relevance in an age of advanced technology. But now, thanks to Allen, we know more about the character dynamics that drive the story.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Allen revealed that Buzz Lightyear will play a major role in the film and that Jessie will face a big challenge at the heart of the plot.
He said: “I’ve already started, now I’m on the third act. It’s amazing what they did. There’s a lot of real intrigue with Buzz. Jessie has a big problem, she needs help, so that’s a really interesting thing.
While the exact details remain under wraps, it’s interesting to know that Buzz will have a larger role in the film. Jessie’s problems will most likely be the catalyst for putting the toys together, but how it all ties into the theme of technology remains to be seen.
One question for fans is how Woody, who separated from Buzz, Jessie and Bonnie’s toys at the end of, did it Toy story 4could be reinstated in history.
Woody’s emotional farewell to join Bo Peep at the carnival felt like a definitive conclusion, so I’m curious to see how Pixar will handle his potential return.
Allen expressed confidence in the film’s story, previously saying, “It’s a very, very smart story… I really don’t think it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it.
“If they didn’t have a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have made it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks].”
It would be great if Story of toys 5 it actually could have delivered the emotional depth and intelligent storytelling that fans have come to expect from the franchise, but personally I think it should have ended with Toy story 3.
