The hit video game Helldivers 2 is getting the movie treatment! Sony Pictures announced the project during the CES 2025 press conference.
I spent a lot of time playing this game and it was great! This could really make for a wild sci-fi action movie! The game is clearly inspired by the cult classic sci-fi film Spaceship soldiersand it will be interesting to see how they translate this game to the big screen.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, said: “Looking ahead to what might come next, I am thrilled to announce that we are working with Sony Pictures to develop a film adaptation of our incredibly popular PlayStation game. Helldivers 2.”
The game was developed by Arrowhead and follows a group of soldiers from the future who fight to defend democracy against a fascist regime made up of alien robots called Automatons and insects called Terminids.
The third-person shooter allows players to join the Helldivers and fight to turn the tide of an intergalactic war by completing important missions.
Helldivers 2 was released in February 2024 and was a huge success, becoming the best-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time with a staggering 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks.
The film project is a collaboration between Sony Productions and Sony Pictures. Cast and plot details were not shared.
I can’t wait to see how this movie turns out! This could be a lot of fun!
