Sony Pictures has announced that Columbia Pictures and Sony PlayStation are currently developing a film adaptation of the hit fantasy video game Dawn of Horizon Zero. No other details about the project were revealed.
A few years ago, we learned that Sony teamed up with Netflix for a series, but unfortunately nothing ever came of it.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, said the project is “in the early stages of developing a film adaptation”.
He added: “Imagine, Aloy’s beloved origin story, set in a vibrant, distant world filled with giant machines, presented on the big screen for the first time.”
Dawn of Horizon Zero follows Aloy, a courageous young hunter in a primitive tribal world where strange, monstrous, animalistic machines roam the desert. He finds himself searching for the truth about his mysterious origin and the state of the world.
There’s no word on whether the film will follow the game’s story or tell a story that expands on the lore. In any case, I hope the studio uses a strong and talented creative team to bring Horizon Zero Dawn to life.
One of Sony PlayStation’s other big film projects is the film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima with the director David Lietch.
