Retro trailer for the 1985 Rankin/Bass Holiday film THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF SANTA CLAUS

This week’s retro trailer is for the classic 1985 animated Christmas special The life and adventures of Santa Claus which was created by Rankin/Bass, the same company behind it Rudolph the red nosed reindeer AND Frosty the snowman.

The special is based on L. Frank Baum’s 1902 book of the same name. The story features a unique and fantastical origin of Santa Claus.

It begins with Great Ak, the leader of an immortal council, recounting Claus’ life to convince the council to grant him immortality. Born mortal, Claus is raised by the wood nymph Necile in the enchanted forest of Burzee.

As Claus grows, he learns about the hardships of humanity and chooses to dedicate his life to bringing joy and kindness to children. He begins creating toys, spreading happiness to the world, but faces opposition from the Awgwa, dark creatures who thrive on human misery.

The story is full of magical and fantastical elements, including immortal beings, mythical creatures, and an imaginative backstory for Claus.

The visual style and stop-motion animation is typically Rankin/Bass, with intricate drawings and a fantastical atmosphere.

While this is a less traditional special than other Christmas specials, it offers heartfelt storytelling and an enchanting presentation.

If you’re interested I’ve included the trailer, a preview clip, and the full movie!
