Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, have announced a new four-issue limited comic series, Universal Monsters: The Mummy.
The comic comes from the writer and artist Faith Erin Hicksthat he worked on previously Friends with Boys, The Adventures of a Super Hero, The City with No Name: The Divided Earth, Pumpkinheads, The Last of Us, Avatar: The Last Airbender AND Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with colorist Lee Loughridge.
Hicks said in a statement: “What I love most about The Mummy is the romance that underlies all the horror. A mortal man defies the ancient gods to bring his dead lover back to life and pays the ultimate price , transformed thousands of years later into a walking specter of death.
“The Mummy is inherently a tragic figure driven by his own pain and loss, his understandable human emotions transformed into acts. It was thrilling to tell this story from the point of view of Helen, the modern embodiment of the Mummy’s long-dead love, and illustrate her growing awareness of the harrowing horror that lurks in the shadows of early 20th-century Egypt .
“I hope fans of all versions of The Mummy enjoy my take on this romantically terrifying (or terribly romantic) story.”
Alex Antone, editorial director of Skybound, added: “Helen Grosvenor is a woman born into two worlds and belonging to neither, forever haunted by a cursed encounter when she was a child.
“When unknown voices bring her back to an Egyptian dig from her past, Helen will unknowingly play an unexpected role in the rise of a monster known only as… THE MUMMY!”
“Faith Erin Hicks’ take on The Mummy is singular and breathtaking,” she said “Even though she’s returning to her horror roots, it’s safe to say you’ve never seen Faith Erin Hicks like this before!”
Universal Monsters: The Mummy is the fourth launch of the Universal Monsters series by Skybound/Image, the following James Tynion IV AND Martin Simmonds’ Dracula, Ram V, Dan Watters, AND Matthew Roberts’ The Creature from the Black Lagoon is alive!; AND Michael Walsh’S Frankenstein. There will be more to come, like the latest in their series Universal monsters comic series, in March 2025.
