David Koeppthe writer of the original Jurassic parkcollaborated with the producer again Steven Spielberg with which to develop the next installment of the franchise Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Koepp recently talked about the film and teased what fans can expect from it. Discussing the tone, he said this is more in line with the first film.
While a guest on The Discourse podcast, Koepp said, “I hope people like the movie because the series tends to change after that.” [Jurassic Park III]and the feeling was, “Okay, so let’s change the tone.”
“Steve [Spielberg] and I was interested in a tone that was perhaps more similar to that of the first film. I saw it early on as a mission film. I like things driven by bottles, by containment.”
The mission he’s talking about sees a team of people racing to secure DNA samples of the three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air.
Koepp adds: “Developing a small team and a goal to accomplish was really fun. And it was just fun to go back to that world of great adventure backed by real science and write some great new characters.
“It’s not often you get the chance to have a clean slate and say, ‘What do you want to do?’ There were no franchise expectations other than dinosaurs.”
Koepp shared that he even put together a list of “nine commandments” for the new Jurassic movie, “a list of things we had to stick to.”
He revealed: “One was [that] the events of the previous six films cannot be contradicted or denied, because I don’t like reconciliation. They’re not funny.
“Two, humor is oxygen. Science must be real. You know, all the things we wanted our movie to be. And I had a great time doing it with Steven and then with [director] Gareth [Edwards].”
The film is set five years after the events of the last film, which saw dinosaurs roaming the Earth: “The planet’s ecology proved largely inhospitable to dinosaurs.
“Those that remain exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates similar to those in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures in the tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humanity.”
Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) plays covert operations expert Zora Bennett, tasked with leading a skilled team on a top-secret mission to protect the genetic material of the world’s three most massive dinosaurs.
When Zora’s operation crosses paths with that of a civilian family whose boat expedition was destroyed by marauding aquatic dinosaurs, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face to face with a sinister and shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.
The film is also the protagonist Mahershala Ali (Lama) as Zora’s most trusted team leader, Duncan Kincaid; Jonathan Bailey (Evil) is paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Friend Rupert (Obi-Wan Kenobi) is Martin Krebs, a representative of Big Pharma; AND Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Lawyer Lincoln) is Reuben Delgado, the father of the civilian family of castaways.
The cast includes Luna Blaise (Manifest), Davide Iacono (The summer I got pretty) AND Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs. Lopez) as Reuben ‘s family, with Philippine Velge (Station eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF) AND Ed Skrein (Dead Pool) as members of Zora and Krebs’ respective troupes.
Rebirth of the Jurassic world will be released in theaters on July 2, 2025.
