It was announced more than two years ago Henry Cavill he would star and produce Warhammer 40K film and television projects for Amazon Studios.
Well, Cavill recently shared an update on the project he’s working on with Games Workshop, creator of Warhammer 40K, and the project is officially moving forward.
The actor shared on Instagram: “My incredible team and I, along with the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working on concept rooms, analyzing approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world.
“Together, we sifted through the plethora of incredible characters and pored over old tomes and texts. Our joint efforts have brought us to a fantastic place to start our universe, which has been agreed upon by the higher-ups at both Amazon and Games Workshop.
“That starting point, for now, will remain a secret. Watch this space, though – more to come in time!”
Cavill previously released a statement about this ambitious new project, which is something he’s clearly passionate about.
“I’ve loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this time really special for me. The opportunity to lead this cinematic universe since its inception is quite an honor and responsibility.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work that Vertigo, Amazon and Games Workshop put in to make this happen. One step closer to realizing a lifelong dream.”
“For 30 years I have dreamed of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel I have the skills and experience to lead a Warhammer cinematic universe into life.
“Collaborating with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we may not have found the perfect home on Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the enormous scope of Warhammer.
“To all you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this intellectual property that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I try to bring you something fantastic that, for now, you haven’t seen yet.”
Games Workshop said: “All we can tell you at this time is that an elite group of writers, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, have been brought together to help bring to the screen the setting and characters that love.
“This illustrious group will be supported by Henry Cavill, who is poised to take his place as executive producer, bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project.”
They added: “TV and film production is a gigantic undertaking. It’s not unusual for projects to take two or three years from this point before anything hits the screen.
“However, things are now progressing properly and you can bet that we will bring you all the latest updates and interesting snippets as soon as we are able.”
Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, “where humanity stands on the brink of what could be its brightest future, or its darkest age. The threats to humanity’s empire are many: traitors driven by the fire of ambition, alien empires sworn to reclaim the stars, and the corruption of reality by evil deities.
