James Gunn previews his SUPERMAN “Silver Age Science Fiction” and Nicolas Hoult’s Lex Luthor

While waiting to actually see some footage from James Gunn’S Supermanthe director continues to talk about it and tease what we can expect from it.

In a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn explains that the film will offer a “Silver Age sci-fi” version of the Man of Steel.

He said: “I don’t think we’ve ever seen the big sci-fi aspects of Silver Age Superman that we have in our movie. We’ve never seen… you’ll see when the movie comes out, but we’ve never seen this specific part of life of Superman.”

He then continued to talk about By Nicolas Hoult confronts Lex Luthor, saying, “I don’t think we’ve ever seen a Lex like this [Nicolas Hoult] AND. Nic is imposing. You’re like, “Oh, fuck, poor Superman.” This is the thing we never see, not in the movies.

“Sometimes in the comics you say, ‘Oh, Superman is fucked because Lex is so smart and so good at what he does,’ but in the movies you say, ‘Lex is about to get fucked’ *ed.”

“We have a big old Superman and a pretty tall Lex too. You see now where Lex is, he’s not the person you want to have against you.”

Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

“It’s set in a world very different from ours and very far from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for centuries and we’ll see how that has influenced the history of this world and shaped the DCU.”

I’m excited about this movie and I hope it’s as good as what I’ve built in my head.

Superman stars David Corenswet like Superman, Rachel Brosnahan lead to Superman and Lois Lane, Nicola Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaioas Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
