MGM+ recently premiered its upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’S The Institute at Content London and have released a preview image, which you can see above.
In The Institute“When 12-year-old genius Luke Ellis is kidnapped, he awakens at the Institute, a facility filled with children who all arrived there the same way he did, and who all possess unusual abilities.
“In a nearby town, troubled former police officer Tim Jamieson (Barnes) has arrived looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his and Luke’s stories are destined to collide.”
Ben BarnesTim Jamieson is “a disillusioned ex-cop who takes a job as a night porter in a small town, retreating from the world until Luke’s plight rekindles him and gives him something to believe in.”
Mary Louise Parker she will play Mrs. Sigsby, “the charming but strong-willed director of the Institute and a true believer in its terrible mission. She is sure that history will see her as a heroine.
According to Variety, the trailer gave “a first look at the Institute itself, a brutalist-style concrete building where kids with telekinetic powers are brought after being mysteriously kidnapped.
“Luke, played by the newcomer Joe Freemannhe is first seen meeting his Institute classmates and the villain Sigsby, who encourages him that he is doing something good for the world while being hooked up to machines and forced to move objects.
Parker says in the trailer: “You’re not children, not here. There is no bedtime, there are no household chores. But here, if you break a rule, there are adult consequences. There are flash clips of children being abused and tortured.
The Institute was developed by Jack Bender (Lost, Mr. Mercedes), which he will produce and direct, and Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The stand) who will write and produce.
King previously said in a statement: “I am happy and excited that The Institute, with its high-intensity suspense, will be filmed as a series. The combination of Jack Bender and Ben Cavell guarantees that the results will be fantastic.”
Michael Wrighthead of MGM+ added: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Stephen King again. And The Institute, based on his critically acclaimed novel, is an exciting addition to the MGM+ original series.
“There is no creative team I would trust more to bring the book to life than Jack and Ben, whose creative vision and love of Mr. King’s voice will bring this inspiring and heartbreaking story to life, in a compelling and engaging way. the cinematic, emotional style that MGM+ viewers have come to expect.”

“Working alongside Ben Cavell and a team of exceptional writers to tell the story of these uniquely talented children will ensure a suspenseful and compelling series.”

The series will consist of eight episodes and will begin production in Nova Scotia later this year.
