The first reaction has hit social media for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Middle-earth anime film. The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim.
This is a film that has wowed me and early reactions have called it “Breathtaking,” “Epic,” “Splendid,” “Master,” “Hypnotic,” and more.
Other reviews say it is “Long”, “Uninvolving”, “Lethargic” and the story “Lacks surprises”. So, the reviews are a little mixed, but I’m still excited to see it as some people liked it!
You can read the reactions below and let us know what you think.
Rama’s screen: “I really enjoyed LOTR: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM. Epic, grandiose, fascinating! The anime style animation was exquisite. It was so nice to be back in Middle Earth. I didn’t realize how much I missed it. One of my favorite movies this year.”
Mike Reyes: “#LordOfTheRings War of the Rohirrim is a breathtaking leap into anime for the Middle-earth saga. There’s so much to love about the animated return of Tolkien’s #LOTR mythology; and it sounds just as epic and moving as you’d like. I can’t wait to see it again.”
Shahbaz: “War of the Rohirrim captures the beauty of Middle-earth with stunning animation, perfect for anime. But despite my love for this series, its long length and uninvolving story prevented me from fully connecting with it.
Tessa Smith: “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is a great addition to the iconic franchise. Perfect for families with teenagers and Tolkien fans, it explores the lore more deeply, offers a gripping story, offers crazy action and features exciting cameos.
Jonathan Sim: “THE LORD OF THE RINGS: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM is a beautifully animated return to Middle-earth. It features well-defined characters and masterful battle sequences, but the occasional predictability and unearned moments can hold it back.
Ezra Cubero: “THE LORD OF THE RINGS: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM gives a glimpse of the magic of Middle-earth, but proves that it can only be as powerful as the characters we follow, who are sadly less than engaging. The intrigue in his story is devoid of surprises and has a lethargic pace. I was disappointed.
Sean Boelmann: “My biggest question about THE LORD OF THE RINGS: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM is why they used such an open-ended medium as anime to tell a story in the world of man. It’s not bad, but it’s less engaging and unique than I would have hoped. Probably a deal for fans only.
Set 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim tells the “fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.
“A sudden attack by Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunland lord seeking revenge for his father’s death, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient hold of Hornburg, a mighty fortress which later became known as Helm’s Deep.
“Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must find the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy bent on their total destruction.”
The original anime film from New Line Cinema The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim comes from the award-winning director Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus AND Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series).
Screenwriter Filippa Boyensthat he wrote Peter Jackson’s live-action film, said: “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim it works for anime because it is character-driven and contained within its world, two things that work beautifully with Japanese storytelling, and there is no better storyteller in this medium than Kenji Kamiyama.
