The series Bel Airwhich began in 2022 and helped put Peacock on the map, will come to an end. The modern dramatic retelling of the popular 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been picked up for a fourth season, which will be the last.
It has been reported that the final season will consist of eight episodes, fewer than the 10 episodes of each of the first three seasons.
The renewal comes three months later Bel Air, produced by Universal Television and Westbrook Studios, released the third season finale on September 5.
Deadline reports that the decision was preceded by behind-the-scenes conversations about the budget, which may explain the delay. The most recent third season renewal occurred before the series’ second season finale.
The peacock stepped forward in a major way to land Bel Air into a very competitive situation when the project was picked up in 2020, giving the drama, based on Morgan Cooper’s viral four-minute trailer, two seasons. It was the first major commission for then-fledgling streamer NBCUniversal, and the drama became its first local hit.
Jabari Bankswho plays the character originated by Will Smith in the 90s sitcom, leads the cast which also includes Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freemann, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones AND Simone Joy Jones.
