Toys “R” Us is hosting a new reality competition series at Fox Alternative Entertainment. The toy shop series, titled Toys “R” Us Family Faceff is under development.
The company is working on the project through its Toys “R” Us Studios division and has partnered with Known Originals, which is behind Netflix Jeen Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy and that of Amazon McDonald’s American Games as well as the unscripted production arm of Fox Entertainment Studios.
The series will seek families to compete within a “larger than life” toy store and will integrate a range of nostalgic and popular trending toys and games from classic toy brands.
Toys “R” Us, much like other toy brands like Barbie owner Mattel and Dungeons and Dragons company Hasbro, has moved into the entertainment space in recent years.
His studio division was responsible for an ad, created using OpenAI’s Sora tool, that went viral earlier this summer. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and 2018, closing all of its U.S. stores by 2021 but, through WHP Global, has reopened a handful of flagship stores and others in recent years.
Allison Wallach, head of Unscripted at Fox Entertainment Studios, said of the project:
“Toys “R” Us Family Faceff represents an evolution of the family competition genre, catering to fans who love the iconic toys and games we all grew up with… and some new ones too.
Add to that Toys “R” Us at the center of it all, with incredible challenges featuring the world’s favorite toys and games, and it’s an hour of fun for the whole family.”
Does this sound like a series you might like? It might be fun to see some of the old toys we grew up with.
