A new photo gives a peek at Dwayne Johnson behind the scenes of Disney’s live-action MOANA film

Disney has a lot going on right in the world of Moana. The first film released in 2016 to a huge response from fans. The story and music were so incredibly beautiful that it felt like a real revival for Disney princesses along with other big hits from the same period like Frozen.

So we were supposed to have a sequel series on Disney+, but when footage from the show was revealed to Disney executives, it was quickly turned into a full animated sequel that hits theaters next week.

Meanwhile, the studio couldn’t miss the chance to turn the animated hit into a live-action film for whatever reason, so we’re getting a live-action film too. Moanawhich is expected to hit the big screen in 2026. I love the Moana franchise and I’m excited to see it Moana 2.

I’d also be willing to bet that the live-action movie will be adorable and well-made, I just wish we got double the original content from Disney instead of the same movies we’ve already seen, still live-action.

But no one asked me! So, they have already started production on the live-action movie, which will be there Dwayne Johnson as the only actor we know of who will take on the live-action role of the original voice cast.

Not as over the top as the cartoon version, for obvious reasons, but probably as close as you can get, considering it’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. So check it out below and see Moana live in theaters on July 10, 2026.
