Comic Conan O’Brien is officially set to host The Oscars in 2025. Jimmy Kimmel has hosted the last two years of the awards event, and this is one of those long-running events that seems to get worse and worse every year.
Hopefully O’Brien can breathe some life back into the Oscars awards show that has become so disappointingly bland.
Conan O’Brien said after the announcement. “America asked for it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.
I loved watching the Oscars when I was little! It was so funny and, in my opinion, Billy Crystal he’s still the best host the awards show has had.
Director General of the Academy Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang said in a joint statement: “We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien as host of the Oscars this year.
“He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of cinema with his brilliant humor, his love of cinema and his expertise in live TV. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
President of the Disney Television Group Craig Erwich said: “Conan is a pre-eminent comedic voice whose decades-long success is characterized by his distinctive humor and perspective. He joins an iconic list of comedy greats who have filled this role, and we are so lucky to have him take center stage for the Oscars.
Executive producers Raj Kapoor AND Katy Mullan highlighted O’Brien’s experience in live TV along with his unique humor: “Conan has all the qualities of a great Oscars host: he is incredibly witty, charismatic and funny and has proven himself to be a master of live television events . We look forward to working with him to deliver a new, exciting and celebratory spectacle for Hollywood’s biggest night.”
O’Brien brings with him 20 years of experience as an Oscar night host, having headlined shows such as Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Tonight’s show with Conan O’BrienAND Conan.
He became a writer Saturday night live AND The Simpsons. The 2025 Oscars will air Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT on ABC, with the pre-show red carpet ceremony at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT.
