Some new details have emerged regarding LucasfilmStar Wars cinematic plans. This report comes shortly after the announcement that Simon Kinberg is developing a new trilogy of films for the studio.
There’s been conflicting news about what these films will be, with some saying it will be a continuation of the Skywalker saga, while others say it won’t, and that it’s a different project than the previously announced Rey Skywalker project.
Well, THR has offered an update and whether this new trilogy will serve as a direct continuation of the main saga or not, one thing is for sure… Disney and Lucasfilm see Margaret RidleyRey Skywalker as key to the future of the franchise.
According to the report, Rey is expected to appear in several Star Wars projects, and a source says that “She is the most valuable cinematic asset, in a way perhaps the only one, Star Wars has now.”
If so, Lucasfilm clearly doesn’t know what they have to work with in the Star Wars universe, which is filled with a vast universe of fan-favorite characters they could play with, some of which are much more popular among fans. compared to Rey.
While I’m fine with Rey, she’s definitely not their most valuable cinematic asset. The only Rey movie we know is coming is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoyand is said to be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
But eventually a new writer will come on board to replace him Steven Knight. The report also mentions “rumors about it Star Wars underground of directors fighting for characters.”
“Rey, the scavenger-turned-Jedi played by Daisy Ridley in the film’s final three episodes, is key to the franchise’s next twist.
“This potentially places Kinberg’s trilogy story development, already in its conceptual stages, on a collision course with the standalone film about Rey that is actively in the works with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.”
Ridley previously spoke about her return as Rey, saying, “I honestly had moments where I thought, ‘I don’t know if I remember what I did.'” [as Rey].””
Ridley added: “It’s really strange. I think everything will feel very different with a completely different team anyway. I’m in a very different situation than I was in. I’ll probably be one of the adults, and initially, I was the youngest person on set , which is a strange feeling.”
He continued, “There is a lot of joy in me and in these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It’s great to be a part of it.”
She spoke about why she returned to the franchise, saying: “It wasn’t a difficult decision. I didn’t say yes right away, Kathy [Kennedy] it was like, ‘Take all the time you need.’ Why shouldn’t I? [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but they also bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people.
“It’s really cool to be able to continue a character – like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to go back to something and try to understand what changed for me and what changed for her.
What are your thoughts on Lucasfilm’s possible plans for Rey and whether they see her as the franchise’s most valuable asset?
