Colin Farrell recently talked about his future in The Batman franchise by revealing that he’s signed on to play the Penguin in three films, and shared how much we can expect to see him in Batman: Part II.
The actor told the Hollywood Reporter: “I signed up for three Batman movies, but I didn’t know if I would be in the second movie. Matt Reeves he is a brilliant writer and an extraordinary director.
“And what makes me most excited and nervous about the second film is not what Oz does – or what difficult situations he finds himself in, or what moments of success he gets to experience – but what his voice is.”
He continued: “What’s her personality like? It was forming and changing in the limited series, and by the end of the eight episodes, it had fleshed out into something else.
“There’s a degree of almost delusional psychopathy present in the last scene,” he continued. “So how does it get picked up in the second movie? I was told I would have five or six scenes. I have no hopes or expectations.
“I’m really an open book, and that’s how I get emotional about things or not. I think sometimes actors, if they have a career that lasts for a certain period, sometimes they get to make too many decisions.
“Which isn’t to say I won’t oppose, argue or fight from Oz’s corner – I think I know him better than anyone now.”
During a previous interview, Reeves offered some details about the sequel, saying, “We shared [the script] since we’re getting along with DC, and they’re super excited. It will dig into the epic story of deeper corruption and go to some places [Bruce Wayne] I couldn’t even predict it in the first one.”
He added: “What was important to me was to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythical characters that everyone knows, and translate them so that Gotham felt like a place in our world.
“We may push ourselves to the edge of the fantastic, but we will never enter the fantastic. It means you feel quite rooted.”
While we don’t know what the story is for Batman: Part II will entail, we know that the story of Oz is not over yet and will take place in the next two films.
Batman: Part II will arrive on October 2, 2026.
