This photo of Brendan Fraser wearing a Superman costume has been making the rounds online recently. This was an audition photo taken when he was up for the role in JJ Abrams’ unproduced film, Superman: Overflight.
Fraser had previously spoken about the experience he had with this project, which was courting all the biggest names in Hollywood at the time.
Fraser said: “Everyone in town was reading for Superman. For example, we’re testing, I think, six or seven guys in 2002/2003. Paul Walker, I remember Paul Walker was before me. They were like the usual suspects.”
While Fraser realized that getting the role of Superman would be “an amazing, life-changing opportunity,” he also “had to reconcile himself to, ‘Okay, say if you get the job of being the Man of Steel , you will get chipped'”. tombstone, are you okay with that? I mean, forever known as the Man of Steel.’”
He continued: “There was a sort of Faustian bargain in play. I think inherently I didn’t want to be known for just one thing because I’ve prided myself on diversity my entire professional life and I’m not a one-trick pony.
Speaking about losing the role, the actor said: “I felt disappointed that there was an amazing opportunity and it didn’t materialize.
“It had to have a lot to do with some shenanigans and studio politics. And probably, intrinsically, in my audition. I think that’s why you take the test… they could only see I was 98% there.”
In the end, Superman: Flybay however, it didn’t take off at Warner Bros.
