X-Men franchise writer and producer Simone Kinberg is developing a new Star Wars trilogy with Lucasfilm. He will write and produce the three films with the studio head Kathleen Kennedy.
What we know about the project so far is that it will take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, “Lucasfilm disputed the idea that Kingberg’s films will continue the story George Lucas began with the 1977 films.” A new hope and continued with eight sequels.”
So I assume that this new trilogy is not connected to the Rey Skywalker project directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. That movie was written by Steven Knightbut recently exited the project.
The report states that Kinberg’s trilogy is in early development and it is unclear when it will go into production. Hell, who knows if it will ever go into production! This is the third or fourth trilogy announced by Lucasfilm since Disney purchased it.
Jon Favreau is currently directing the Star Wars movie with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is a continuation of the Disney+ series and will be released on May 22, 2026. There are also two more untitled Star Wars films set for December 18, 2026. and 17 December 2027.
Lucasfilm has several other projects in various stages of development coming from James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, and Donald Glover.
This isn’t the first Star Wars project Kinberg has worked on as he is the creator and writer of the animated series. At one point he was also developing a Boba Fett movie.
What do you think? Simone Kinberg developing a Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm?
