Ernie Hudson He is best known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters franchising. He’s an important member of the team, probably the nicest guy in the group, with a Zen attitude and a perfectly timed line to set the scene.
Hudson explained to fans during a solo panel at Rhode Island Comic Con this past Saturday that his co-stars had a lot to do with it. He remembered specifically Bill Murray defending him during their first days as Ghostbusters.
“Bill Murray is the only actor I think I’ve ever worked with that when they tried to get him to do another one [Ghostbusters] – remember it was about 20 years before we came back with another movie after the second movie.
“But Bill basically just said, ‘If Ernie Hudson isn’t in the movie, I won’t do it.’ There aren’t many people who kind of stick up for you. And that was really very, very special. So I love all the guys. They’re very, very supportive.”
Hudson continued to rave about co-stars Murray, Harold Ramis AND Dan Aykroyd”the desire to be inclusive” towards him on set, “because the studio wasn’t”.
“I was acting for, I don’t know, many years before I even did it Ghostbusters. The studio wasn’t as welcoming, but the kids were.
“When we were shooting a scene, the guys would say, ‘Wait a minute, Ernie’s not saying anything. So let’s make sure he’s included.” So a lot of those jokes probably could have gone to someone else, but they were kind enough to make sure I was always included.”
He added: “The studio went out of their way to make sure I wasn’t included. It went down to the poster. It went down to PR. But the guys were really [inclusive]and that’s why I really considered them all very, very special people in my life.”
You can tell that the lead actors in these films all have great chemistry and friendship with each other, and that carries over to the new cast as well.
There is no news on another movie in Ghostbusters franchise right now, but if any pan out, it would be nice to see Hudson back in the role of Winston. If not, he left an amazing legacy.
