Hideo Kojimathe creative mind behind it Solid metal gear AND Stranded Deathhas set a high standard for the type of games it creates.
He’s one of the greatest video game artists working today, and he hopes that centuries from now he’ll be able to create a game that aliens will discover and think is awesome.
During a recent interview with Anan News, Kojima explained that, first and foremost, it is important for game developers to create games that they are personally happy with.
He said: “I can’t release a game I don’t feel convinced about. For starters, the way art is valued changes with the times. Just as paintings are valued 100 or 200 years after the artist’s death, even games and films remain as objects to be passed down from generation to generation after the death of their creators.
“If I do something I’m happy with, centuries later aliens might come and say, ‘that’s great,’ that’s what leaving something behind means.”
While I understand what he’s saying, I’m not sure aliens would give a damn about anything we create on Earth. We are just an insignificant speck in the infinite cosmos and I’m sure they see us humans as a ridiculous primitive species.
Kojima’s current project is OD, a mysterious horror experience that he describes as “a little risky” and “a game like no other.” So we can’t wait!
