Meryl Streep will star in the adaptation of the series THE CORRECTIONS

Meryl Streep is set to star in a series of adaptations of the 2001 novel The correctionswhich tells the story of a Midwestern couple and their adult children.

Author Jonathan Franzen is adapting the novel, which HBO previously attempted to adapt in 2011. They actually ordered a pilot Noah Baumbach.

The pilot had a stellar cast that included Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans AND Greta Gerwig. HBO ultimately didn’t move forward with that project.

In the story, “After nearly fifty years as a wife and mother, Enid Lambert is ready to have some fun. Unfortunately, her husband, Alfred, is losing his sanity to Parkinson’s disease, and their children have long since fled the family nest to the catastrophe of their lives.

“The eldest, Gary, once a stable portfolio manager and family man, is trying to convince himself and his wife that, despite some alarming indicators, he is not clinically depressed.

“The middle child, Chip, has lost his seemingly secure academic job and is failing spectacularly at his new job.

“And Denise, the youngest, has escaped a disastrous marriage only to throw her youth and beauty down the drain in an affair with a married man – or so her mother fears.

“Desperate for some pleasure to look forward to, Enid has set her heart on an elusive goal: reuniting her family for one last Christmas at home.”

This new project is set up at CBS Studios.
