MGM+ has been renewed Billy the boy for a third and final season, and we’ll see Tom Blyth return for the final eight-part run. This is a great show and I’m happy to see it wrap up the story in another season.
The series was created by Tudor AND Vikings Creator Michael Hirstand MGM+ said the show is “among the three most-watched original series on the platform” in the network’s history.
The series follows Billy the Kid, also known as William H. Bonney, “from his humble Irish roots, to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his key role in the Lincoln County War and beyond.
In season two, “Billy and his allies are confronted by his old friend Jesse Evans and the corrupt powers of the Santa Fe Ring. When the shots are fired, the conflict explodes into the bloody Lincoln County War. In the midst of the fighting, Billy will struggle to hold on to his soul and the love of his life.”
In season three, “The Lincoln County War is over, but both Billy the Kid and Sheriff Pat Garrett, played by Alex Roe, have important issues to resolve: there’s a reckoning to come. Billy is still at large and Garrett wants to capture him, dead or alive.
“And with a price on his head, Billy has the opportunity to leave New Mexico altogether and pursue a future with Dulcinea, played by Nuria Vega, the love of his life. But he has unfinished business with Garrett, who betrayed him, and decides to stay.
“Meanwhile, Billy’s longtime friend, rival and enemy Jesse Evans, played by Daniel Webber, also remains in Lincoln, seeking new purpose and perhaps atonement for his sins.
“As the final chapter of the saga draws to a close, Billy will fight like hell to finally find the justice that has long eluded him, even if it means he dies trying.”
Michael Wright, head of MGM+, said in a statement: “In season two, Michael Hirst, Donald De Line, along with Tom Blyth and the rest of our talented cast, captivated audiences with the dramatic events that led to the infamous Lincoln County War, during which Billy is fighting to keep both his soul and the love of his life.
“In season three, we are thrilled to bring to a close the naturally cinematic story of one of the most fascinating, and often misunderstood, characters in American history as only MGM+ can.”
Hirst added: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to write the third and final season of Billy the little boy and conclude this gripping saga.
“Billy was famous for many things, not the least of which was his ability to escape from seemingly impossible situations. But now, as the most wanted man in America, the odds are really stacked against him.”
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, in association with Amblin Television and De Line Pictures. Executive Hirst produces alongside Donald De Line, Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
