DC Studios Casts Matthias Schoenaerts as Villain in SUPERGIRL Film

Rust and Bones actor Matthias Schoenaerts has landed the role of the main villain in the upcoming DC Studios film Supergirl film. It will join House of the DragonMilly Alcock, who plays the lead role.

Craig Gillespie is directing the film, with James Gunn AND Peter Safran production. This will be the second film released in Phase One of DC’s Gods and Monsters, and the film is expected to begin filming later this year.

The film has been defined Supergirl: The Woman of the Future in the past, but after Gunn changed the title of his Superman movie to simply Superman, there is a possibility that this film will simply be titled Supergirl.

Ana Nogueira is writing the screenplay for the film, and it has previously been explained that the film is “based on King TomThe wonderful comic series that came out just last year… This is a very different kind of Super Girl.”

In this film, “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was a baby, and the super girl who was raised on a sliver of rock on Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth as a young girl and is much more hardcore. That’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

In King’s comic book story: “Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but now she finds her life has no meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a newborn cousin who ultimately no longer needed her. What was it all for?”

Everywhere she goes, “people see her only through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out on a cruel mission. Her world has been destroyed and the bad guys responsible are still out there.”

She wants revenge, “and if Supergirl won’t help her, she will do it herself, no matter the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog and an angry, heartbroken child set off into space on a journey that will shake them to the core.”

I hope Gunn’s plan for the DC Cinematic Universe ends up being good. The question is, even if it is, will people show up to watch them?
