George RR Martin praises GAME OF THRONES prequel series A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS: THE HEDGE KNIGHT

George R.R. Martin recently shared his strong criticisms for the HBO series game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragonbut when it comes to the new prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Errant Knighthe’s singing a different tune.

Martin is praising The Errant Knight series, which will consist of six episodes and is based on hisTales of Dunk and Egg.

Martin wrote in a statement: “I visited the set in Northern Ireland in July and loved what I saw. Fantastic cast. [The lead characters] Dunk and Egg look like they stepped right out of my book. My readers will love them. I certainly will. [Showrunner Ira Parker] he’s doing a great job.”

Martin’s praise for The Errant Knight comes just a week after he addressed on his blog what he called “toxic” changes to the House of the Dragon story. You can read all about it here. He’s clearly not happy with some of the creative decisions made with House of the Dragonbut at least he’s satisfied with this other show… so far.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Errant Knightfollows the character of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents) was cast as Egg.

The series is set a century before the events of game of Throneswhen “two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros… a young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his small squire, Egg (Ansell).”

Set in a time “when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded from the living, great destinies, powerful enemies, and dangerous deeds await these unlikely and incomparable friends.”

Martin and Ira Parker are writers and executive producers of the new series. Martin has published three novellas in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series to date.

These include The Errant Knight (1998), The sworn sword (2003), and The Mysterious Knight (2010). A collection of three short stories, with illustrations by Gary GianniIt was published as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2015.
