CSI Creator Antonio E. Zuiker is set to write, executive produce and serve as showrunner for the adaptation of Blumhoue’s psychological thriller series The Silent Tenant.
Charlize Theron’s Life has joined the project, which is “a psychological thriller about kidnapper and serial killer Aidan Thomas, narrated by the people closest to him: his 13-year-old daughter, his girlfriend and the one victim he spared.
The story explores “the psychological impact of Aidan’s crimes on the women in his life and the bonds between these women that give them the strength to fight back.”
By Blumhouse Jason Blum said in a statement: “I’ve been a huge fan of Anthony’s cinematic style and his approach to storytelling on TV since the early days of CSI.
“I knew it the moment he threw it The Silent Tenant which was the right voice to bring by Clémence Michallon emotional novel for television, and we are thrilled to produce this project alongside the talented team at Secret Menu who have produced some of the best female-centric film and television projects to date.”
Zuiker added: “When I read Clémence Michallon’s book The Silent TenantI couldn’t put it down. The descriptive nature of the story and its emotional storytelling sensibilities convinced me to make a film for the small screen. This is a story about a woman who takes back her power despite the most shocking circumstances.”
Producer Dawn Olmstead continued, “When Jason sent us this tense, intense thriller that took such an original approach to a kidnapping story, we immediately said yes because that’s exactly what Secret Menu was created to do. We’re so lucky to be working with Blumhouse again and to have Anthony Zuiker adapt it.”
In the story, “Aidan Thomas is a hard-working family man and a rather beloved figure in the small upstate town where he lives. He’s the kind of man who always lends a helping hand and has a good word for everyone.
“But Aidan has a dark secret that he has kept hidden from everyone in town and from those closest to him. He is a kidnapper and a serial killer. Aidan has murdered eight women and there is a ninth he has marked for death: Rachel, imprisoned in a shed in the garden, fearing for her life.”
When Aidan’s wife dies, he and his thirteen-year-old daughter Cecilia are forced to move. Aidan has no choice but to take Rachel with him, introducing her to Cecilia as a “family friend” who needs a place to stay.
“Aidan takes a gamble on Rachel, after five years in captivity, because she is too brainwashed and scared to try to escape. But Rachel is a fighter and a survivor, and she recognizes that Cecilia may be the lifeline she has been waiting for all these years.
“As Rachel tests the limits of her new living situation, she begins to form a tenuous bond with Cecilia. And when Emily, the owner of a local restaurant, falls for the handsome widower, she finds herself drawn into Rachel and Cecilia’s orbit, coming dangerously close to discovering Aidan’s secret.”
This really sounds like it could be a fantastic series!
