Adult swimming has released a new trailer for the director Hiroshi Nagahamaanime adaptation of Junji Itoclassic horror manga Uzumakiwhich looks incredibly terrifying.
The story centers on a high school student named Kirie Goshima, who lives in the cursed town of Kurôzu-cho on the coast of Japan.
“According to Shuichi Saito, the introverted boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or a being, but by a pattern: uzumaki, the spiral, the secret, hypnotic shape of the world.”
The series follows the misadventures of many of its citizens, each of whom seemingly succumbs to a terrible fate. It is based on an iconic manga series by Ito, which ran from 1998 to 1999 in 19 chapters.
This is a 4-episode miniseries designed to capture Ito’s distinctive black-and-white art style, and as you’ll see, it’s a haunting and wild series filled with nightmarish imagery.
This project has been in development for several years and will finally premiere on September 28th on Adult Swim, with distribution the following day on Max.
The four-episode anime series will also include a soundtrack created by Hereditary‘S Colin StetsonI can’t wait to see it.
