DRIVE Director Nicolas Winding Refn Would Direct a BATGIRL Movie If Asked

Nicolas Winding Refnthe director of Guide, Only God forgivesAND Neon Demonis currently preparing his next film project, but is also interested in trying his hand at other genres such as superheroes; one project in particular he would be interested in is Batgirl for DC Studios.

Now, as you know, a Bat-girl the film had already been made and then scrapped by Warner Bros. for a tax break. That film will never be released, so there is still an opportunity for Refn to make his Bat-girl movie.

In 2016, Refn expressed interest in a Batgirl movie, saying, “You know what I want to do? I want to do Batgirl.” THR recently asked him about the possibility, and this was his response:

“Well, let me put it this way: sometimes the idea is more interesting than the reality. Sitting around a table talking about remaking Logan’s Run is probably more fun than remaking him or Barbarella, for that matter.

“But I don’t think I’ve ever turned anything down. I’ve just had meetings with everyone but they’ve never materialized, none of these projects have become a real reality. But the illusion is always more exciting than its real bones and, at the end of the day, I’ve always found that if I can make projects of my own that define me, it’s more satisfying.

“But maybe it’s because I haven’t found the right project. I mean, of course I’ll do Batwoman, or Batgirl, whatever she’s called, if I get the chance.”

The big question is: When James Gunn and Peter Safran are ready to move forward with a new Batgirl movie, will they actually reach out to Refn to at least talk about the possibility of his involvement?
