Here is a wonderful and touching story about how Pat Morita he was helped early in his life and career by Red Foxxand how Morita took that generosity and repaid it Robin Williams.
This short video is from Nick Ragone of This Date in History and tells us that when Morita was a budding comedian, he met Redd Foxx, with whom he became good friends.
To help Morita’s career, Foxx gave him a role in Sanford and son and there was a time when Morita was buying a house, but he didn’t have a down payment. So, Foxx gave him $3,500 to help him out and told Morita that instead of giving it back, he had to pay it back up front.
Years later, in San Francisco, Morita saw a young Robin Williams perform and joked about his financial situation. After the show, Morita gave him $3,500 to help him out and told Williams to return the favor, which Williams did.
I love this story and you can see it told in the short video below.
