AS Halle Berry’S Catwoman the film celebrates its 20th anniversary, the director of the film, Jean-Christophe “Pitof” Comargave an interview to CinemaBlend to talk about various aspects of the film and what went wrong.
If you’ve seen the 2004 film, you know how bad it is, and one of the main reasons it’s so bad is the terrible script that was written. Pitof spoke about the script in the interview, saying that it was a big problem, but that it thrived under the pressure the studio was putting on it.
He said: “After the shoot, when we put the film together, it didn’t work because so much (had) changed during the shoot. The pieces didn’t fit together well.
“We had to completely rethink the entire edit, reversing scenes and adding new ones. And we had to reshoot for 10 days, a month before the release date! Which is insane!
“To fix all the little problems that the script had. So I never had a chance to have a director’s cut. It was more of a ‘Okay, how do we fix this?'”
Trying to fix a poorly written script in the editing stage is not an easy task, because that script is the basis for the film and if that doesn’t work, how can you actually make the film work?
Pitof continued by saying that Catwoman He started shooting with an unfinished script, and if he had more time, he would have worked harder to improve the script. But they were working to a tight deadline.
The director said: “I would say that the problem of the film was the script. The script, we all know, has been rewritten a thousand times. When we started shooting, the script was not finished.
“We kept writing the script during editing. So if I had six months (more time), I would have put it six months before production. Not after!”
Catwoman It wasn’t well received, it was panned by critics and fans, and it was a box office flop. Berry even received a Razzie for her performance, and she showed up to the ceremony with the Oscar in hand to accept the award, which was awesome!
Catwoman follows the transformation of Patience Phillips, a shy and unassuming graphic designer, into the fierce and agile Catwoman. After discovering a dark secret about her employer, a cosmetics company developing a dangerous anti-aging product, Patience is murdered to keep her quiet.
However, she is mysteriously resurrected by an Egyptian Mau cat and given feline abilities, including heightened senses, agility, and strength. Embracing her new persona as Catwoman, Patience embarks on a journey of self-discovery and revenge, seeking to expose the corrupt corporation while balancing her dual identity.
As she explores her new powers and wrestles with her moral compass, she finds herself drawn into a complicated relationship with a detective investigating a series of crimes linked to her alter ego.
