DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE director explains the challenges of creating the special end-credits tribute

During the closing credits of Deadpool and WolverineA special and wonderful tribute was paid to the history of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel films featuring the X-Men and the actors who brought these iconic characters and stories to life.

This end credits tribute was a behind-the-scenes piece of footage that provided an emotional treat for fans as we bid farewell to Fox’s X-Men.

In an interview with the New York Times, by Shawn Levi discussed the challenges of creating this reel and it turns out it was much more challenging than you might think, and took months to put together. There was a lot of effort behind the scenes to bring it to life.

Levy explained the surprisingly difficult process when asked how the actors reacted to being included in the tribute.

He said: “Both. Some people approved it based on the belief that it would be well-intentioned and warm. There were many others who wanted to see the film just to feel firsthand the atmosphere and context in which it would be used.

“It took months and a lot of different people working on all aspects, a lot of which fell to Ryan and I personally contacting the actors because time was running out and conventional channels couldn’t do it fast enough.

“So it was not only a labor of love on our part, but it also gave us the opportunity to connect with a lot of the actors that are part of that story.”

Each clip in the edit has been carefully selected to reflect not only the best of Fox’s Marvel history, but the entire spectrum, including films that didn’t resonate with fans.

Ultimately they did a great job of creating a comprehensive tribute that included all of the Fox/Marvel films, regardless of their critical and commercial reception.
