The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will be extremely epic in scope, as we have learned that 1,500 orc actors will appear in this season in full makeup.
This news from Nerdist, who explained from a visit to the set: “Season two has 1,500 actors in orc makeup. The prosthetics are a four-part application process that includes a hood, forehead, chin, and face.
“These can be mixed and matched to create unique looks. It takes two people and two and a half hours to apply each set of prosthetics.”
Now, while this is really cool and impressive, I would like to point out that Peter Jackson used over 20,000 extras in his The Lord of the Rings film. While 1,500 is nowhere near that number, I like that they’re making an effort to use real people instead of CGI.
It is also explained that this season of the series will feature much more large-scale action than the first season. This is something the creative team has been teasing in recent months.
Co-showrunner Patrick McKay He previously said: “We love a good battle. The plan for season two would be to do something much bigger, on a much bigger scale that wouldn’t just take place overnight, but over multiple days, weeks, months and episodes.”
Charlotte BrandströmSeason 2’s production manager says this battle will be “ten times bigger” than the one seen in the first episode. “It’s really the battle of darkness versus light, with some very dark and quite violent moments.”
Executive Producer actress Lindsey Weber He also shared: “Things have gotten really intense since Sauron has returned and is moving the chess pieces around the board. “So we can have a different kind of action and see Middle-earth in some more terrifying moments.”
The series is set “thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’S The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Ringsand will take viewers back to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest thread, and the greatest villain Tolkien had ever created threatened to plunge the entire world into darkness.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the Elven capital of Lindon, to the extraordinary island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest corners of the map, these kingdoms and characters will leave a legacy that will live on long after they are gone.”
In season two, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.
“Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, Amazon’s second season The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power immerses even its most beloved and vulnerable characters in a growing tide of darkness, challenging each of them to find their place in a world increasingly on the brink of destruction.
“Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good fight ever more bravely to hold on to what matters most to them… themselves.”
The series is developed by the showrunners Mr. J.D. Payne AND Patrick McKay. The Rings of Power Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on August 29.
