Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 It hit theaters earlier this summer, and didn’t do very well at the box office. It was a great western that created a great story, being the first of four parts.
Due to the film’s poor performance, Warner Bros. withdrew Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 from the theatrical release date. But all these things are not stopping Kevin Costner from completing his passion project. He is determined to finish them.
During an interview with TodayCostner offered a promising update, saying, “I love the journey of this thing. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I love this movie.
“I love the second one, and the third one is even harder than the first two, and the fourth one completes the story. I made a promise to myself, and I’m trying desperately to keep it and bring it to people, these kinds of giant stories, and I hope people fall in love with these characters.”
He added: “A lot of times, the things you want to do don’t immediately resonate with anyone else. It’s only after you’ve finished that people start to understand what it was all about, and almost, take responsibility for themselves, and go, ‘I love this movie.
“I love these characters. I didn’t know where this story was going. It’s nice in life to be surprised. The plan is to have shot a little bit of the third one already. And maybe shoot them back to back next spring.”
So, despite the box office disappointment of the first film and the uncertainty surrounding the release of Chapter 2, it seems that Costner intends to finish the next two films at any cost.
Horizon: An American Saga chronicles “a multifaceted, 15-year span of expansion and settlement of the American West before and after the Civil War. Told through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with danger and intrigue, from the constant assault of the elements to interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the determination and, in many cases, ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.”
Costner has previously spoken about the story, saying, “It’s a really beautiful story; it’s a tough story. It really does involve a lot of women, to be honest. There are a lot of men in it, too, but the women are really strong in Horizon. It’s just them trying to get by every day in a world that was incredibly tough.
“They were often [dragged] in these places because that’s where the men wanted to go; the women followed their men. They didn’t ask to be in these territories that were unstable and dangerous, and life wasn’t easy. I chose to make sure that it was really obvious, that it wasn’t easy, and how vulnerable people were.”
The film also has a fantastic cast which includes Siena Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell’s Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Alexander Edda, It will be PattonAND Tatanka means.
