YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Showrunner Previews What Fans Can Expect From Marvel’s Disney+ Series

A couple of weeks ago, some new images and details about the upcoming Marvel/Disney+ series were shared at D23, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-ManThe animation of the series is inspired by Steve Ditko comic book style, and so far, we know that the series is set before 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, but with one notable key difference.

“Rather than coming home to his apartment to see Tony Stark in his house, it’s none other than Norman Osborn who’s chatting with Aunt May when he walks in the door. And just as meeting Tony put Peter in more of a spotlight than the boy needed, Peter having Norman as a mentor ‘sends his life on an unexpected trajectory that has him colliding with a lot of unexpected characters in the Marvel Universe.'”

Now we have some insights into the show from its writer and showrunner, Jeff Trammellwhich appeared this week Official Marvel Podcast.

Trammell says Spider-Man is one of the most recognizable characters out there. While his story is now firmly embedded in pop culture, there are still moments when Peter Parker’s life can surprise you.

The showrunner says the crew is eager to create moments for kids who are just starting their journey with Spider-Man. At the same time, the writer is also gently preparing some older viewers not to rest on their laurels when it comes to the web-slinger.

“I would give a simple answer, ‘expect the unexpected.’ But, honestly, I think you can expect Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s him, he’s wandering around New York. It’s not like some big intergalactic adventure, it’s him, just like his roots.

And there’s a lot of things that I think we as a fan base take in at first glance. Like, “Oh yeah, I know it works, I know it’s part of the story.”

“It was really fun to dig into. Well, maybe you don’t know everything. Or maybe there are certain things that make you go, ‘Oh yeah, I know that part.

No surprises. And I can’t wait to dig into that, because it’s really fun to be able to subvert those expectations, when they’ve been built up for so long.”

The series’ voice cast includes Hudson Thames (What if…?) like Peter Parker, Eugene Byrd (Spidey and his amazing friends, 8 Mile) like Lonnie Lincoln, Song of Grace (Make fun of) like Nico Minoru, Hugh Dancy (Hannibal) like Otto Octavius, Kari Wahlgren (Rick and Morty, the movie) like Aunt May, and Zeno Robinson (My Hero Academia, Pokemon Master Journeys: The Series) like Harry Osborn. Also includes Charles Cox like Matt Murdock / Daredevil along with Paul F. Tompkins like Bentley Wittman / Wizard.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is ready to hit Disney+ on November 2. Can’t wait?
