I spent a lot of time at the arcade playing the original Marvel vs Capcom fighting game with my friends, now it looks like we might even see a new one developed one someday!
Last month at the Nintendo Direct, a Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics has been announced. This has excited fans, as there hasn’t been a new game in the series in almost seven years.
During an interview with Dexerto, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection producer Shuhei Matsumoto has hinted that Capcom has “big dreams” for the future and hopes this collection will introduce a new generation to the series.
He said: “The development team at Capcom has big dreams. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game. Maybe there’s an opportunity for a new SNK game based on Capcom.”
He continued: “I don’t know. But if that were to happen, it would take some time and effort to create and release those kinds of games, but in the short term what we can do now is at least reintroduce these legacy games from the past to a new audience, to people who might not have had the opportunity to play them, because they might not be available on modern or current platforms.”
Matsumoto added, “There may be future opportunities to make bigger games.” But don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
In any case, it would be great to have a brand new one. Marvel vs Capcom left one day!
