When Alien: Romulus ends, it’s not hard to see that a sequel could easily follow the horrific story it told. With the film doing well at the box office, it’s not hard to imagine Disney wanting to move forward with a sequel.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director Faith Alvarez revealed that he and co-writer Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead) already have some ideas in mind for a sequel.
In Alien: Romulus“While exploring the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
The only survivors of the mission are Cailee Spaenythe character of Rain Carradine and his android brother Andy (David Jonsson), who hope to find a better future on the planet Yvaga.
Asked about the possibility of a sequel, Alvarez said: “Yes, I definitely can. [pitch a sequel right now]We tend to do it naturally, without even thinking about sequels.
“For us, films have not become franchises, tentpoles and sequels. This is a language that I have only learned in the last ten years of my working life. [in Hollywood]For me, it’s always been about history.”
He continued to tease where the story might go: “So once we finished that, we started thinking, ‘What do you think is going to happen when or if they get to Yvaga? Is it going to be awesome? Or is it a terrible place?’
“We tend to think it’s probably a terrible place, and they think it’s fantastic and they fantasize about it, so we naturally started thinking about where it takes us and what’s going to happen.
“And then after a few minutes, we’re like, ‘Oh, this feels like a sequel.’ But we really try to think about it more in terms of the story and whether it needs another chapter and whether people want to know what happens next.”
“So we’ll wait and see what people think and if people ask. My philosophy is that you should never do [a sequel] in two years. You have to go. You have to make the public really want it.
“If you think about Alien and Aliens, there’s a seven-year gap. But we definitely have ideas about where it should go.”
I hope Alvarez and his team end up making a sequel. I would like to see the stories of these characters continue. There is a really beautiful and interesting story to tell.
What would you like to see explored in a possible sequel?
