This week’s retro trailer is for the 1983 sci-fi film Strange invaderscentered on alien beings settling in a small Midwestern town.
The film tells the story of Charles Bigelow, a college professor whose ex-wife Margaret suddenly disappears. Charles’ search takes him to the small and mysterious town of Centerville, Illinois, where he discovers that the residents have not aged since the 1950s.
Digging deeper, he discovers a bizarre and terrifying secret: the town’s inhabitants are actually alien invaders who came to Earth decades ago and are living in disguise, kidnapping humans and replacing them with duplicates. The aliens are part of a plan to take over the planet, and Centerville is their base of operations.
The film follows Charles as he teams up with Betty Walker, a tabloid reporter who is also investigating strange alien-related events. Together, they unravel the mystery of the alien conspiracy while trying to stay one step ahead of the invaders.
Tensions escalate when the aliens, aware of Charles’ investigations, begin targeting him and anyone who comes close to uncovering their secret.
The film was directed by Michael Laughlin and stars Paul Le Mat, Nancy Allen, Wallace Shawn and Diana Scarwid.
